The woman goes by Kala on the app, identifies as an engineer and appears to do all of the work on her underground tunnel system by herself. FOX5 identified her as a Herndon resident.

The project began in August 2022, Kala said in a video that had 8M views as of press time. It features a 30-foot entrance and a main chamber 22 feet under ground.

Kala details all of the issues the runs into, the latest apparently a stop-work order from the town last December, saying she can't continue until she gets a permit and assessment from an engineer to prove the tunnels and work are safe.

Kala worked with an architect to submit drawings for a permit application and expects the process to continue for another month, but remains optimistic.

A statement from township officials obtained by FOX5 says:

"As is standard protocol following such notifications, representatives from the building official’s and zoning administrator’s offices conducted a site inspection on Thursday, December 7, 2023. The town is working with the property owner to correct any violations and ensure that the property is safe and in compliance with the code."
